Day 1 - What the HELL did I get myself into

Day 1 arrives, bright and early. I am supposed to be there before 5:30 am which means I wake up super early. Roque drops me off near the entrance, I kiss him goodbye, it will be the last time I get to see him in seven days.

At this point all the emotion stress makes me snap and I call Roque and I am totally crying while on the phone with him, I already miss him!

I go into the huge room where opening ceremonies takes place. We all get together and do the opening ceremonies thing then they let us go to our bikes. Then we are off!

Day 1 was kind of scary because I don’t even know if I can make it on this ride, I did not do anywhere near enough training. Also since I used to live in these parts I am familiar with a lot of the routes and know how many hills there are.

I make it to Santa Cruz just fine though. I am not dead, I am in pain but not dead.

Taking a shower and getting into normal cloths feels SOOO good. Since my buddy Mikey (and my tent mate) is doing motorcycle crew he wont be in until the route closes so its my duty to setup the tent and stuff.

We eat dinner and basically crash cause we are tired!
