Getting there.....

Well I have the color scheme how I like it. Now I just need a nifty header image. I have a few things in mind :) It's all coming along so well! I like movable type!

Also, since I was getting comment spammed on my last site, I installed a module where you have to enter a security number that is randomly generated via an image so bots can't spam this site. So when you comment remember to enter the security number!

Powered By Gay V3.0

Well I did it people, I converted my entire site to Movable Type. It really us MUCH better software for blogging then what I had before.

As you can see, I have not edited my templates at all. The only thing I have done is migrate ALL my old articles into movable type. That was pain enough! So in the next few days and weeks you can expect the site to become customized in true powered by gay fashion!

I am such a dumb ass

In the process of deleting all the spam comments I keep getting, I just deleted EVERY comment on my website. NICE! You would think a software engineer would know better. Do I have a backup of my database, again, you would think a software engineer would know better. Maybe this will finally prompt me to move to movable type or something......

Jamie Miller: 11/4/1980 - 1/9/2005

This weekend I learned something that made my heart ache. My good friend Jamie was found dead.

We dated for six months, and even though we broke up we stayed the best of friends. We both just realized that even though we were not meant to be together as a couple, we were meant to be in each other lives. He was like family to me.

its not fair that someone as young as him (24) died. But he WILL be remembered as the sweet, caring, funny and great man that he was.

If you can read this site wherever you are Jamie, know that we all love you and we will miss you.


Memorial services for Jamie Miller of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary, 250 Race St., in Grass Valley.

Mr. Miller died Sunday, Jan. 9 in Roseville. He was 24.

He was born Nov. 4, 1980, in Long Beach to Thomas and Debra (Minchinton) Miller.

He worked for Dish Network Sales. He enjoyed driving on road trips, the outdoors and cars.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Debra Miller of Grass Valley; brother, Wes Miller of Grass Valley; sister, Dawn Miller of Grass Valley; grandparents, Don and Sherry Minchinton of Grass Valley; grandmother, Patricia Huck of Huntington Beach; aunt, Dawn Minchinton of Grass Valley; uncles Mike and Jim Minchinton, both of Grass Valley; cousins Forrest, Kyle, Ryan, Jimi and Heather Minchinton of Huntington Beach and Carli and Ashly McDougall, both of Grass Valley.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.

Well we here at Powered By Gay got hacked earlier today. There is a exploit in the weblog software I use. I have not been keeping up with upgrades because I have hacked the code to do what I want. I have now upgraded the code, so I am hoping I wont get hacked again.

The end of an era

It is done. I have moved this website to an ISP. It’s almost kind of sad. Since this website has been up (since July 2002) it has been running on my trusty Dell computer in my bedroom. I liked the geek factor of running my own web server from my bedroom. But alas it’s just not economically feasible now that I am buying a home. DSL that is capable to host a web server is NOT cheap I can save lots of money buy getting cheap DSL and paying and ISP to host PBG. So that is what I have done. Things are generally working but there maybe still some issues with email and whatnot as DNS entries are slowing updated to my new IP address. If you find anything broken let me know.

Still alive

Sorry for the lack of posts people, it’s been really hectic and stressful around here. I have all this work at work, I started school this week, and I almost bought a condo yesterday. Can I just say buying a place to live is super stressful, I couldn’t sleep all night just thinking I was about to place on offer on a place that if I got I would be in SOOO much debt. I eventually cracked under the pressure and didn’t put an offer down, which I am really happy about because it would not have been the best move.

Starting school means my work schedule is totally jacked up now. My teacher in his infinite wisdom made class at 4pm (um I kinda work till 5). So now I am coming to work every day at 7 am so that I can leave a 3 twice a week to make it to class. Coming in this early sucks because I have to wake up that much earlier! I got to work today before the lights came on, that rocks.

Tonight I get to see Chris again. I am very excited about this. I really do enjoy hanging out with him and getting to know him.

ATTENTION: We are now officially famous!

Yesterday a buddy of mine told me that my little website was quoted in Genre Magazine. I was like “whatever, shut up.” But he then assured me that it was true. I was still in disbelief. I was all excited but I did not want to get too excited because if it was not true I didn’t want to be all sad. So this morning my buddy remembered to bring in the magazine to work so he could scan the appropriate pages for me and email them to me. The magazine is not on shelves yet but he has a subscription so he already got it.

So how was I quoted? Well you know I do those wonderful surveys on my site, and they quoted one of my surveys, right there, larger then life. And now for the images!!!

New and improved comments!!!!!

I realize one of the reasons very few people leave comments on my site is because you had to be a user and login to leave comments. This has bugged me for a long time but I always assumed it would be way to hellish to hack the code and fix it. But today I got really motivated!

You no longer have to be a user to leave comments. Now it asks for a name and blah blah and you can leave a comment. It still works perfectly if your a user, but now non registered users can add comments.

So go to town, add comments till your fingers bleed from typing :)

Login error?

This site is designed so that once you login, it sets a cookie in your browser so basically you never have to log in again. One of my friends informed me that she had to login every time she wanted to post a comment, which shouldn’t be the case. I have fixed the code in my weblog engine to hopefully fix this problem. If you have no idea what I am talking about, it’s because as far as I know, this error only occurs in Chimera and Safari. But I have just tested Chimera and Safari and all is good. If anyone is having this problem (still) let me know. I don’t want to make it difficult for my users to post comments.

Incidentally when you sign up for an account on this site, it emails you your password. If you signed up and never got your password, let me know. That problem has also been fixed. My server was setup wrong so some people’s ISP’s would just bounce the email with the password cause it thought it came from a non-real server hence was spam.

I need help. I hate my logo. It’s a carry over from my old site. It was OK at the time, I wanted better, but hey what else could I ask for. Look it’s me!

For those that have not noticed yet, I added a new little box on the left side bar of my site called Picture Fun. I figured it would be fun to put random pictures of me. Why? Yippy! A new connection for my little site!

After dealing with my cable modem going down all the time, I finally got annoyed enough to order DSL this morning. So hopefully this new connection will be rock solid so my website will be up all the time. Nothing bugs me more than my site going down. And technically according to my service contract I am not allowed to run a web server on my cable modem anyway, but I am allowed on my new DSL line.

A question to my readers…

Somehow I managed to get a fire lit under my ass and now I am thinking I really want to do the AIDS Life Cycle Ride this June.

What do you my readers think? Should I do it? Would you sponsor me? I do have to somehow manage to raise $2500. Last AIDS Ride I managed to raise $5000, but lets face facts, that was when the economy wasn’t quite so horrific.

Also there are the time considerations. I work full time and go to grad school, trying to find time to train is going to be a bit of an issue. But I really want to do it. I have been rounding up my friends, preparing them for an AIDS Ride in 2005 (when I am done with school and have more time), but I don’t think I can wait that long I wanna do it now.

So yeah, I want all your thoughts and comments and ideas. So leave a comment on this article. Or send me some feedback. Either way I wanna hear what y’all have to say.

Site access problems

If you ever come to my site, and you can’t access it, I am sorry. I host my website out of my bedroom, and my internet connect can be a bit unreliable so sometimes my site goes down. I would switch to better service, but the job situation is not so stable so I have to wait till I get better situated financial. I apologize. Just try again later cause it does eventually come back up, I have never seen it be down for more than an hour or two.

My friend told me that the spelling on my site just keeps getting worse and worse. Argh! I try you know, but I can only counteract the engineering gene so much! And you know the scary part is that I am one of the better speller/writers out of the engineers that I know.

So I make this promise to my poor readers that get subjected to my poor spelling and grammar: I will proof read my articles (thoroughly) before I post them. The sad part is, I already type my articles in a word processor and spell check them before I post them. But no spell checker can catch the horrendously poor grammar that I seem to be able to produce.

I am almost afraid to post this because it’s probably full of mistakes!

Write Comments, NOW!

Hey this is a message to all my loyal readers out there. I have been made aware that the mechanism for adding comments to my articles is confusing and that is probably the reason why no one does it. I have been working on a solution to the problem.

For those that care about the details, the comments used to be ALL they way at the bottom of the page NOT at the bottom of the article. So when you clicked on the comments link, it was hard to tell what you were supposed to do to add a comment. But I have fixed the UI of the weblog so now the comments are directly below the article.

So go for it, give it a try!!!! Click on the little comments link at the bottom of this story. You will be brought to a screen with just this story and below the story will be any current comments and a little button that you push to add your own comment. GO FOR IT!!! You don't have to be a registered user to add comments. So DO IT. I want to get some live discussion going on here!

Sorry about that

For all one of you that actually go to my site, you may have noticed it was down all day today. Sorry about that, it was my fault. I did something to update my site and I totally jacked up the configuration script of my weblog engine, which of course caused my whole site to not work. But I fixed it, it’s all good now, and I know not to do that again.
